Fatnas Island (locally called Fantasy Island) is a small palm-covered island on the shore of Birket Siwa, one of Siwa's salt lakes. Connected to the mainland by a short causeway, the island has become Siwa's most iconic sunset spot. A simple cafe under the palms serves tea and shisha while visitors watch the sun drop behind the dunes of the Great Sand Sea, painting the salt lake in shades of gold and pink.
Why Visit

The quintessential Siwa experience — simple, beautiful, and unforgettable
What to See
Sunset Over the Salt Lake
The main draw is the sunset — the sun sinks behind the dunes of the Great Sand Sea while the salt lake reflects the sky in vivid oranges, pinks, and purples. The silhouettes of palm trees frame the scene perfectly. Arrive 30–45 minutes before sunset to settle in at the cafe with a mint tea and watch the light show unfold. On still evenings, the lake becomes a perfect mirror.
Visitor Tips

- The cafe serves tea, juice, and simple snacks — cash only
- Bring insect repellent — mosquitoes can appear at dusk near the lake
- This is a short visit — easily combined with Cleopatra's Spring and Shali in one afternoon
